Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on

the Account of Receipts and Expenditure of the Treasurer of

Hong Kong for the year 1898.

1. The Revenue for the year 1898 amounted to

$2,672,107.80, or, inclusive of Land Sales and Water

Account, to $2,918,159 24. The Expenditure during the

same period was $2,841,805 20. There was therefore a

surplus of Revenue of $76,354.04.

Revenue.

The total Revenue for the year amounting, as

stated above, to $2,918,159.24, was $223,292.24 more than

the Estimate of $2,694,867, and larger also than the

Revenue of 1897 by $231,244.54.

The estimated receipts of Revenue were exceeded

under all Heads with the exception of "Interest" and "Land

"Sales", which showed a deficiency compared with the

Estimates
